Weck Jars and Vintage Ball Jars

Written by Becky

I love jars. Vintage Ball glass jars, new tulip shaped Weck jars, jars with strange old clamps, and jars with tinted turquoise glass. I’ve had a few folks ask me recently where I find my jars so I thought I’d do a little post dedicated to my love for jars.

I’ve found some of my favorite vintage glass jars at antique stores as I’ve traveled with Josh or some have been given to me by sweet jar-loving friends.  As for the new Weck jars, I buy them online at Weck.com.  There are many other hip sites to buy them from like Heath Ceramics or Kaufmann Mercantile, but they are cheapest here.
Or if you have no budget for jars or just don’t care to buy them I totally understand. I started by just scraping off the labels off jars I’d bought with things like olives or jam in them and reusing them.
Here are just a few ideas for what to store in your jars– beans, rice, quinoa, sesame seeds, chia seeds, jam, pumpkin seeds, couscous, pine nuts, pecans, almonds, flax seeds, salsa, jam, olives, pickles, or even ice cream.  Just to give you an idea.  I’ve been canning a bit lately and I’ve loved using small Weck jars for jam, like this peach jam. Sometimes if I buy something in bulk like rice I’ll put some in a jar that’s easily accessible then store the rest up in a cabinet.  I’ve also enjoy making fresh batches of tomatillo salsa during the summer and having it in a jar in the fridge ready for a snack. Do you keep jars around the house?  What do you use them for?

  1. I have a jar obsession! Since I've gone gluten-free, my alternative flour collection has become quite extensive. I store about 15 kinds of flour plus other staples like rice in them. I LOVE how they look in my kitchen!

  2. I have way too many jars in my cabinets they are overflowing, I guess you could say my collection has become an obsession! And my newest love are Weck jars. I need to find those tulip shaped ones.
