Vintage Mixer Travels - Costa Rica

Costa Rica

We had an excuse to visit Costa Rica and we took it!  One of my close friends was getting married and her family comes from there so they decided their festivities would be abroad instead of in the US.  Without having to think about it, we packed our bags for a week long wedding celebration in Costa Rica.

For part of the week we stayed in San Jose, taking in the city life there, drinking Imperial, and taking short day trips to sights like the San Jose Volcano, or to fish for our own dinners at a nearby pond.

For the actual wedding we retreated to the rain-foressted coastal town of Manuel Antonio.  Since we were basically traveling with the locals, they knew all the best places to stay so we found ourselves at an unbelievable bed a breakfast, The Mango Moon. This 10 room inn literally overlooked the rainforest and the beach in one panoramic view from the lobby. Most of the hotel was indoor-outdoor, as is much of the architecture in Costa Rica.  The weather is so mild that you don’t really need an AC so your living room might as well be your patio.

Every morning over the weekend we had breakfast in the open-air lobby of the hotel overlooking the stunning view and hoping to catch a glimpse of some of the wild monkies.  We ate a typical Costa Rican breakfast of eggs, rice and beans (rice and beans were pretty much at every meal), and some fruit (probably pineapple, mango and papaya).

Though I must admit, I’m not much of a beach gal (I have extremely fair skin), Costa Rica easily won me over with it’s lush rain forests and mild temps.  I found it to be the perfect beach vacation for a non-beach person.
