We are entering a time of hopeful expectation. Waiting is a hard discipline in this hurry culture. The type of waiting during advent is not as if you are waiting in a line at some over crowded doctor’s office or in 5 o’clock traffic but a waiting with full delight knowing what is soon in store. We wait, like many have done before us, for Christmas to come. The season beckons us to an active kind of waiting that opens our hearts and paves the way for the wonder and peace of Christmas. And this December we’ll wait with glad hearts and full stomachs because there’s lots of delicious seasonal food still to be enjoyed!
My favorite food around this time of year is soup. When the air is crisp outside I can think of nothing better than a big bowl of soup. My go-to soups are Butternut Squash Soup, Chestnut Soup, Tuscan Bread and Bean Soup, French Cream of Cauliflower Soup, and Split Pea Soup. Many of my favorite winter soups include seasonal produce. We made enough to have leftovers for lunch the next day, which is always a glorious thing! So this year, as you wait, eat well and wait expectantly!
Below and above are images for your computer desktop and phone to help remember what’s fresh this month. I look forward to hearing what seasonal dishes you make for the holidays!!
