Ever since Becky spent a summer in Spain I think she’s been trying to recreate it. She reminisces often, usually in the summer, usually with sangria.
Many of our memories revolve around what we had to eat or drink at a given place – the Chianti and Cappucinos (not in the same glass) in Italy, the almost-chewable coffee in Brazil or the Caipirinhas, Pino Noir in Beaune… you get the idea. Memories tend to find their place in smells and tastes. And that’s why we have sangria every summer around our house, to remember Spain.

think you’ll like it, especially if you can find the Portuguese Vinho Verde from Quinta de Gomariz. It brings a nice effervescence and incredible summer feel.
We took a jar full of this sangria up with us for a cookout with friends up in the mountains. We also toted this asian salad with us. Summer, in the mountains, with good friends and sangria, there’s not much that can compare to that!
- 4 - 5 cups of fruit - just about any fruit will do - peaches, apples, cherries, pears
- Peach vodka - we highly recommend High West's 7000' Peach Vodka
- White wine - we used 1 bottle of the Vinho Verde from Quinta de Gamoriz
- One cup of sugar
- Sparkling water to top of the drinks
- Pour a bit of the vinho verde in a glass because you'll want to drink some of it while you're working.
- Soak all the fruit you choose to use in a bowl with peach vodka for at least two hours. How much vodka? It depends on how much you want in your pitcher. I don't recommend submerging all of the fruit, because that's a lot of vodka. We poured a cup and a half and stirred the fruit occasionally to make sure all of it got a turn in the vodka.
- Pour sugar, fruit and vodka (from the bowl) into a pitcher and mix together with a wooden spoon. Pour entire bottle of wine into the pitcher. If you still have some room in your pitcher, pour some sparkling water in their to top it off. Not too much because you don't want to dilute, but a little is fine.
