Globe Themed Nursery

Globe Themed Nursery

Written by Becky

Before Everett’s arrival, just like most new mom’s, I did some nesting. First priority was the nursery and since we love traveling so much we decided on a globe themed nursery filled with world maps for dreams of stary-eyed journeys. We hope to continue to travel with Everett, showing him God’s beautiful creation in varied cultures and landscapes and when he gets old enough we’ll recount

all of our globe trotting to him. Here are a few shots of the rest of the baby’s room.

See that blanket lying on the rocking chair… I made that!! Over Christmas I crocheted a simple striped blanket for Everett, maybe I am a little crafty after all! Either that or becoming a mom has unleashed some craftiness that I’ve suppressed for a while!

Some friends and I burnt the edges of a cheap world map and pinned it to particle board with some small flags showing the places Josh and I have visited.

At our baby shower some close family friends gave us this darling globe mobile! Even now, at only a month old, Everett loves to lay and stare up at it. Maybe he’s day dreaming of traveling around the world!

Woodard Vintage Leather Tufted Rocking Chair

After browsing the web for a rocking chair that was both moderately priced and decent looking, I came up empty. Luckily, my parents kept my grandma’s vintage rocking chair and gifted it to me right after Everett was born. Now, I can’t imagine a better chair for the room. It’s a vintage Lee L. Woodard Leather Tufted Rocking Chair from the 1950’s or 60’s. Everett and I have already spent countless hours rocking away.

Nursery Embroidery Hoop Art

Lucky for me I have crafty friends. Diana, of the blog May June July, showed me how easy it is to make hoop art with fabric and inexpensive embroidery hoops. We simply stretched fabric or maps onto the hoops and secured the fabric to the back with a little bit of hot glue. On a few of the maps we embroidered the path Josh and I took in our travels.

Jenny Lind Crib

Our crib is simple and inexpensive one by Jenny Lind. The Aden and Anais star sheets were a gift from my cousin and the beautiful quilt was made by a dear friend’s mom for us (I helped a little, mainly sewing straight lines- I’m a complete novice at sewing).

One of my very favorite things is the bassinet we found. This Restoration Hardware Moses Basket and Bassinet sits in our room and is one of the only peices that I feel we splurged on, but it was worth it. It moves around the house during the day as Everett naps and we’ve even carried it out to the patio for him to nap as we eat outside in the evenings.

We found the dresser from a second hand store and just made it into our changing table station with a changing pad on top. It’s drawers are finicky but works fine in our home filled with mainly vintage finds.

The mini leather chair (much like one I had as a child) was also a thrift find, as well as the suitcase under the bed. We filled the suitcase with a few toys we’ve gotten and although Everett’s not quite old enough, our friends’ kids already know where the toys are and love opening up the old suitcase to find them. The mini chair also was also a big win among our friends’ older kids. I look forward to Everett being old enough to enjoy the whimsy of them both!

It was fun coming up with a room that both fit our style and personality yet was also appropriate and imaginative for a baby boy. Now, it may be our most peaceful room in the whole house, and lucky for me, it’s right by the kitchen so I can get some work done and still be close by!

  1. I am so in love with this room! It’s beautiful and so perfect for a sweet little boy. Plus…I may be pinning for whenever we have our next little one. The map idea is so great!

  2. I LOVE it! Especially that rocker. My grandma gave me the rocker she rocked my dad in when she found out we were pregnant. Best gift in the world! My husband dropped his jaw when I showed him yours. Such a treasure.

  3. LOVE LOVE LOVE this room! If we ever have a boy, I hope you don’t mind, but I totally want to copy this theme and some of your ideas! It’s so great!

  4. Beautiful nursery! I don’t think I’ve even seen it in real life yet, how is that possible? 🙂 That rocking chair is just about the coolest thing ever!

  5. Becky, this turned out so adorable. Really. I’m thinking if we *ever* have a nursery then it will have a very similar them. So versatile, regardless of gender. I simply love it!

  6. Becky what a bright, airy, clean and well-thought out room! It is totally you. And I love the travel and globe theme.

I still can’t get over that rocking chair. So much meaning and such style!

I’m pinning that Moses basket, too. 🙂
