Oktoberfest at Snowbird
Posted by
Becky at VintageMixer
There are two more weekends to catch Oktoberfest up at Snowbird Ski Resort. This was my first year to go (it has taken me 6 years!) but I was so glad we made went. I'm not sure why we haven't been before, it contains several of our favorite things: being up in the mountains in the fall, good food from another country, music and dancing, and of course large steins of beers. Large being an understatement for some of the beer mugs we saw.

'My 7 Links' - Tops Blog Posts
Posted by
Becky at VintageMixer
My dear friend Barbara invited me to participate in a blogging project called My Top 7. Basically, it is a project among bloggers to gather up the best posts they've published on the web. I thought it was a fun opportunity to reflect back on some previous posts and to participate in something with fellow blogging friends. My favorite posts are by far the ones which the photos and recipes cause me to reminisce over stories, travels, and friendships, just like the photo of the Almond Torte above- a dessert I enjoyed with dear friends when we traveled around Spain together. I hope you'll enjoy this list of favorites even a fraction as much as I enjoyed writing it!

Simple Chicken and Peach Curry Recipe
Posted by
Becky at VintageMixer
This summer, we went to my lovely cousin's wedding in Vail, Colorado. While we were there, we had many scrumptious meals but one in particular left me inspired, Chicken and Peach Curry. Josh and I both love curry dishes, especially at our favorite local Salt Lake Thai Restaurant, Chanon Thai. What makes a great curry dish is, in my opinion, a slightly-sweet-yet-boldly-spicy sauce and the addition of lots of fresh crisp vegetables . I've made curry a few times at home but they left a bit to be desired. This recipe with fresh peaches, crisp green beans, and juicy chicken, is one for the books!

Currently Craving... Fat Kid Pizza from Maxwell's
Posted by
Becky at VintageMixer
I first discovered the 'Fat Kid' Pizza several years ago at the Sidecar Bar while checking out the Arts Festival in Park City. We tried it once and were hooked. Looking at the picture above I can almost taste it: fresh ricotta, pepperoni and spinach on a thin New York-style crust. The very pizza I found in that little bar on Main Street, has now been the featured product for the opening of two restaurants. Maxwell's is now open in downtown Salt Lake, and I'm dangerously excited to have such a delicious pizza just around the corner.

Raw Oats Recipe with Fresh Fruit and Our Trip to Malibu, Canada
Posted by
Becky at VintageMixer
One of my routine breakfasts all summer long has been this very simple recipe for raw oats. Did you even know you could eat oats raw? Its kind of strange, I know, but you have to just trust me on this one. Plus they are super easy to travel with. I just took them with me on an early morning flight this past weekend to BC Canada. So much better than airport food!

Salt Lake City Greek Festival 2011
Posted by
Becky at VintageMixer
My favorite time of year commences with the Greek Festival in downtown Salt Lake. We go every year and look forward to the fresh feta cheese, gyros with roasted lamb, spanakopita, and baklava, all enjoyed will listening to overly loud Greek Music and watching traditional Greek dancing. To me, the best festivals around town are mostly about the food. Sadly, this year we'll be in Canada for the duration of the festival, so I urge you to go on our behalf. And I seriously want to hear back from you- what did you like/not like and your favorites from the festival. I will just have to get my Greek Festival fill from your stories so please go and do share with me how it went. Here is my post from a previous Greek Festival. Have a a gyro for me!

Rico Market in Salt Lake City
Posted by
Becky at VintageMixer
Okay friends, as a huge Mexican Food fanatic, I have found a place I can 100% recommend for you in Salt Lake. Rico Market is located on 700 South and 500 East and serves fresh, inexpensive Mexican food all day. Though I am a fan of Rico's other restaurant, Frida Bistro, for the right occasion, I must tell you that the market is much more fitting for routine visits. The atmosphere is really laid back, the staff is very friendly and helpful, and they serve quick, tasty, authentic Mexican food- just as it should be! Forget all of the average "Mexican Food" chains around town like Bajio, Chipotle, and Cafe Rio. I promise Rico's is far superior.

Utah's Seasonal Produce in September
Posted by
Becky at VintageMixer
When September hits, we are nearing my favorite time of year! Fresh Produce is at its peak in Utah and it's time for college football to begin! I can hardly wait for cooler evenings and leaves to start changing color. There are so many fresh foods at the farmer's market this time of year that I get overjoyed by what my options are for cooking seasonally. This is also the perfect time to start canning all of this fresh produce that you've grown in your garden and start making pesto, tomato sauce and jam to enjoy all winter long.
To download this month's wall paper on your computer, please see the first post on Seasonal Produce in Utah.
Here are some recipes to make use of all of the great foods in season:
