Dog Friendly Restaurants in Salt Lake City
Posted by
Becky at VintageMixer
We have a sweet new addition to our family. His name is Henry Oliver, he's a bit chubby with beautiful green eyes, a lackadaisical attitude and a love for food. Like many men, as soon as the food hits his plate, he's consumed most of it. He's a perfect fit for us.
There is one problem with having a new puppy. How do you go out to eat? Or where? I know eventually he will be okay to leave at home alone, but for now it would be nice to bring him along. I am looking for advice from my fellow food friends in Salt Lake. What restaurants are dog friendly? Are there any?! I'm excited to hear your responses!!
Here are a few restaurants I've found thus far that allow dogs on their patio

Fruit and Yogurt Parfaits
Posted by

After my trip to San Francisco and a visit to the Frog Hollow Farm Cafe, I was inspired to eat more yogurt and fresh fruit. I've made several of these parfaits recently and can't seem to have enough. Maybe its the summer heat or the sweetness of the fruit's season. Plus, they are simple to make. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, or dessert, these parfaits are a great summer treat.

Every Thursday at Tony Caputo's new location, 15th and 15th (opening soon), local farmers and food vendors will be selling fresh local goods. The vendors will be setting up shop on the front patio from 3-7pm starting July 22nd. Here is the line up of what you can purchase:
Butcher's Bunches: Premium preserves made by Liz Butcher of Logan. She uses her own or locally purchased produce and also uses liqueus, bleu cheese, and chocolate in her jams.
Les Madeleines: They are bringing Kouing Aman and more pastries from their downtown store along with Dry Sodas.
Morgan Valley Meats: lamb, beef
Happy Monkey Hummus: Erin and Dave have over 12 kinds of handmade hummus.
Clifford Family Farms: Mostly known for their incredible eggs, but they also have great produce, mostly greens I believe.
Melanie's Sweets & Treats: Melanie has great handmade snacks. Look for Sweet and Spicy Popcorn and her handmade chocolate truffles and cupcakes.
Grandma Tina's: Pasta Sauces
Aquarius Fish: Our very well known neighbor will be bringing fish flown in that morning. We love their scallops and wild salmon
Star G Bar: Piedmontese beef

Shopping and Dining in San Francisco

For mother's day, I organized a weekend trip for my mom and I to travel to San Francisco. In her recent travels an airline lost all of her luggage. Her favorite items in her wardrobe happened to be in there. Luckily, they refunded her for her lost items but she rarely shops for herself, so I decided we needed a girls-only weekend to replace her lost clothes and spend special time together.
I did some research on local places to eat near our hotel and found some fantastic restaurants you must visit if you are ever in the area.

Talisker on Main, Park City, UT
Posted by
Becky at VintageMixer
The private gated communities with second-home winter retreats, concierge services and members-only restaurants of Park City are out of reach to most of us ordinary Salt Lake folks, but recently I discovered a way in.
Talisker on Main is meant for the public, though it offers a high-end, elite-like experience. The evening started with a perfect peach bellini and only went up from there.

Lemon Curd Ice Cream
Posted by
Becky at VintageMixer
In effort to keep up with my cravings for all things lemon-y this summer, I found an easy recipe for Lemon Curd Ice Cream. It was the perfect summer treat for our Fourth of July celebration with friends.
For Fourth of July we gathered with some friends and grilled everything imaginable; we also enjoyed several American Wines. We grilled turkey, sausage, chicken, vegetables, and pineapple. The only thing we didn't put on the grill was the wine and of course the ice cream.
I first got hooked to Lemon Curd with this same group of friends. Our friend's mother frequently makes it and we enjoyed it on top of scones for brunch one morning. Last summer I made it for the first time and now I can't seem to get enough. I've made it into Lemon Curd Ice-box Cake, Lemon Curd Whipped Cream, Lemon Curd and Scones or Toast, and now finally Lemon Curd Ice Cream.
Lemon Curd Ice Cream
INGREDIENTS
1.5 cups lemon curd
1.5 whole milk
1 cup heavy whipping cream
DIRECTIONS
Mix all three ingredients together thoroughly with a wire whisk then place in ice-cream maker and follow instructions for the specific maker. Freeze for 3 hours or overnight before enjoying!

Macarons
Posted by
Becky at VintageMixer

On my trip to San Francisco this past weekend I found a cute bakery at the Ferry Building selling the most delicious macarons and was inspired to tell you a bit more about this sweet treat. Most of you probably already know about this seemingly small yet powerful little treat but if you don't I hope to enlighten you.
What Wikipedia has to say...
Macarons (the French word for macaroon) is a sweet confectionery. Its name is derived from ammaccare, meaning crush or beat, used here in reference to the almond paste which is the principal ingredient. It is meringue-based, made from a mixture of egg whites, almond flour, and both granulated and confectionery sugar. The confectionery is characterized by its smooth, domed top, ruffled circumference, and flat base. Connoisseurs prize a delicate, egg shell-like crust that yields to a moist and airy interior. The French macaron differs from other macaroons in that it is filled with cream or butter like a sandwich cookie, and can be found in a wider variety of flavors that range from the traditional (raspberry or chocolate) to the exotic (truffle or matcha tea).

My Dough Girl, fresh baked cookies in Salt Lake City
Posted by
Becky at VintageMixer
photos in this post are by my talented photographer friend AmyLashelle
Have you ever been to a restaurant or shop and then asked yourself "Why haven't I been here before now?" I must have driven past it a dozen or more times but I never went inside. Now I've tasted the goodness and regret not doing so earlier.
My Dough Girl is a specialty cookie shop on 300 West with dozens of cookie flavors all named after pin-up girls. Each cookie has a unique personality of its own. The owner, Tami Cromar, is just as delightful as her little shop. Full of creativity and spunk, her charisma spills out into each cookie she creates.

Salt Lake Farmer's Market Meal: Roasted Beet Salad, Sausage and Zucchini Pasta, and Rhubarb Cobbler
Posted by
Becky at VintageMixer
First, if you have yet to visit the Salt Lake Farmer's Market, you absolutely must go on your next free Saturday. If you are out of state, don't let that stop you. It is by far the best market I've been to and this year it's at its best. Lots and lots of food, produce, foodie treats and more food, plus some fun crafts too.
